MLK Friends Dinner: BBQ Edition! Did you get a chance to stop by our BBQ.
Nothing quite says “Summer is almost here” like the sound of burgers and hot dogs sizzling on the grill, right? On Wednesday, April 27th, we’ll be kicking off grilling season in style with a Burger (and dog!) Bash prepared by Executive Director Heather Hole Strout and her family at the Center.
It’s the Easter Bunny, of course! Our students had such a lovely surprise this morning when they showed up on this sunny day to be greeted by the Easter Bunny at the Center. Special thanks to the Newport Recreation Department for helping to make this happen for our kids today!
Picture this: The year is 1935 and the narrow streets of Newport have to worry about something new and exciting in the community–– the automobile.
Wow, Rhode Island. Look what you did. $54,626. As of 9:30 a.m. today, that’s how much you gave to the MLK’s 401Gives campaign, That’s a lot of help for a lot of people.
Good morning! Are you awake? Can we get you anything? How about a coffee? We know it’s early, but while you’re having that morning cup of joe, can you log on and make your gift for 401Gives, if you haven’t already?
“I can’t imagine where I’d be if it wasn’t for the MLK…you guys saved my life.” … Woah. Hearing that at the Food Pantry from one of our clients really hits home, doesn’t it?
401Gives is just SEVEN days away and we have BIG NEWS. Two generous friends of the MLK are putting up ,$25,000 to inspire YOU to give on Friday, April 1st, the statewide day of giving.
Looking through our archives, we found this front-page interview with former Executive Director Amanda Frye Leinhos in the Newport Daily News from November of 2007, explaining how the need for the Center’s hunger relief services grew in just a few short years.
It may seem far off with the weather we’ve had as of late in New England, but we swear–– summertime is coming!
