Centennial Hunger Challenge
July 22 – August 22 (Or Until We Reach Our Goal!)

Centennial Hunger Challenge
With rising costs for food, gas, rent, and almost everything else, more people are using the pantry than ever before. Thanks to a generous friend, we have a chance to double the impact of your donation. For every dollar or pound of food you give, they will match it with another dollar. Help us meet the challenge by August 22, or sooner!
Drop off food at our pantry Monday – Friday from 8:30 am – 5 pm and mention this campaign or make a monetary donation here:

LivFit Cooking Class
Healthy and Flavorful Cooking for the Whole Family

These are just some of the friendly faces you will see if you join the
LivFit Cooking
class offered
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5-6 p.m
.
This program is really changing the lives of the participants thanks to our wonderful, registered dietician, Kristin Niessink, who not only shows the class how to cook the ingredients but explains why certain foods are healthy, how to shop for the best ingredients, and more. She is also available for nutrition counseling regardless of your ability to pay.
If you are interested in joining the class or have questions about counseling,
contact Kristin at:
niessink6@aol.com
or
(401) 368-7614
.

Felicidad Llamas
has been coming to the class for a year and it has helped to bring her whole family together. “Every weekend I cook for my grand kids and they love it. I share all the recipes with my daughters to cook at home too” she explained. It is so convenient for her and most recipes are all veggies so she is saving a lot of money too.

Olivia DeOliveirva
says she loves the flavors and simple seasonings. “I really like the healthy recipes; everything is so fresh!” she shared. They recently made a chicken, tomato, brown rice, quinoa and arugula salad that has become one of her favorite recipes.

Bernie Leduc
is 75 years old and started coming a year ago to learn how to cook. This class has really impacted his health. In the first month he lost 10 pounds and his cholesterol has gone down. He now cooks and shares food with his neighbors

Alison Cooper
has been coming to the class for four years now and still really enjoys it. She likes to help other participants when they need it. “I’ve enjoyed just about everything we’ve tried but bean burgers are one of my favorite recipes.” She is also thankful to Kristin who will go shopping with students to teach them to better understand food labels.

Veronica Letric Nancy and Jerreck Maldonado
Veronica Letric, Jerreck and Nancy Maldonado

Veronica Letric
started coming to the class just six months ago. She enjoys cooking and sometimes remakes the meals at home. She really likes that it has helped her to shop better too.
Nancy Maldonado and her son Jerreck
(who is also a MLK camper) have been coming to the class for 3 years. She has enjoyed it so much, she made an entire book of recipes and remakes meals all the time at home. “I love everything we do, especially meals with chicken and broccoli” she was happy to share.
