Above: Lunch & Learn, a monthly program that provides a nutritious meal and engages seniors in our community.
Vincent is a veteran fallen on tough times. Unable to keep his part time job after a serious fall, he visited the Food Pantry for the first time last month. He’d been rationing his meals so he could feed his cat. He’s amazed to find groceries, produce, household items … and pet food at the MLK.
Together, we’ve helped thousands.
But, so many more people need your help.

Renters need to earn more than $70,000 per year to afford the average 2-bedroom rent in Newport of $1,753 per month (HousingWorks RI 2018 Factbook). Nearly 4,000 local people – families, seniors, children – look to the MLK Community Center for help putting food on their tables, for high quality children’s education programs, for enriching and empowering health and wellness programs. Compared to last year, hundreds more people have already looked to the Center to improve their lives.
When you give, you help the Mobile Food Pantry visit neighborhoods across the county, including Jamestown. You help deliver food to a homebound senior in Tiverton. When you give, you help a Portsmouth family over the holidays. You help a Newport homeless woman have a hot breakfast. You help a Middletown family send their child to Preschool. When you give, you help people all around you.
