Throughout the pandemic, we’ve all needed a little help, in one way or another. Some of us found help in Zoom calls with friends and family to combat pandemic-related stress. Some of us found help in stimulus benefits or unemployment assistance. Thousands of people in Newport County found help at the MLK — some for the very first time. The MLK Community Center has remained open and in service throughout the long months of the COVID-19 pandemic, and we will continue to serve our community. After all, that’s what neighbors are for. But we can’t continue to provide this life-changing support if we don’t now ask for your help. While we can’t physically stretch out our hands to help our neighbors in need during this time of social distancing and “pausing,” on this #GivingTuesday, there’s a role for all of us to play in giving our Newport County neighbors a hand. Give the gift of a warm holiday meal. Give the gift of fresh vegetables, eggs, milk, and meat at Mobile Pantry visits. Give the gift of high-quality, affordable Preschool and After School for families. Give the gift of fresh produce, free of cost, every weekly Veggie Day. Every dollar counts. Your gift in any amount supports Newport County during the pandemic and beyond. Today, our goal is to raise $1 for every person the MLK will serve in 2020, a goal of $4,786. We’re on track to serve 4,786 people in 2020, more than we’ve ever served in our near-100 year history. PBC will generously match every dollar donated to the MLK today, Giving Tuesday, 2:1, (up to $9,572).
