Big Changes are Coming to the MLK!

Phase 1: A Bigger and Better Food Pantry

Pantry donations will also take place at this new location beginning Wednesday, September 7 during regular drop off hours.

Drop-Off Donation Times:

Monday - Friday:
8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

There will be many more changes coming and we will keep you updated on the progress.

Big changes are coming to the MLK Center thanks to the generosity of our community.

To prepare for construction, some changes are happening now. The MLK Pantry will be closed on Friday, September 2, so food and supplies can be moved. This new temporary space is directly across the street in the former Salvation Army Thrift Store space.

This new location will be open normal pantry hours beginning Wednesday, September 7.

On-Site Pantry Hours:

Monday, Wednesday, and Friday:

10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Wednesdays: 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Look What's Coming...

MLK Friends Dinner
Wednesday, August 31 at 5:30 p.m.

If you haven't experienced the delicious food prepared by Matt George during the breakfast program, now's your chance to. He will be the featured chef at the MLK Friends Dinner on Wednesday, August 31, at 5:30 p.m. All are welcome to this community meal. Eat-in or take-out are available while supplies last. Please use the Edward Street Entrance. Hope to see you there!

Summer Camp Showcase
Literacy and Hands-on Learning

The MLK's Summer Adventure Camp is an 8-week literacy, science and math-based program for children in grades 1 through 5.

One of the goals of Summer Camp at the MLK is to help prevent the academic slide that normally occurs over the summer. All of the activities are fun, with a wide array of field trips integrated into an experiential learning curriculum that increases the camper’s knowledge base.

Last week, the season ended with the Summer Camp Showcase. Families had the opportunity to tour the classroom to view some of the lessons and activities their children completed this season. Pictured here are just a few examples.

APRI Provides Rapid HIV & HCV Testing at MLK
Now Available Every Third Monday During Breakfast Hours

HIV & HCV testing third Monday every month

Preschool Registration Open - five spots remain

The Preschool at the MLK is an affordable licensed educational program for children 3-5 years of age.

Currently, there are only 5 spaces still available in our 3 year old group. Children must be toilet-trained in order to attend.

Open: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. daily

Cost: $170 for 5 days; $136 for 4 days; $102 for 3 days.

Department of Human Service (“DHS”) childcare subsidies are accepted. Scholarships are available for families with demonstrated need. All are encouraged to apply.

Our program helped develop the RI Early Childhood Education Standards and was designated a Preschool Center of Excellence by the national Early Learning Reading First Program.

Large Cans of Soup and Canned Proteins Still Needed

The food pantry is in need of large cans of soup and stews. All varieties are welcome.

We can also use canned proteins such as tuna, SPAM, chicken, sardines, etc.

Please bring your donations to the Loading Dock

Monday – Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
